sour candy cinema club
cinema club with interesting lectures!
Hi everyone!

My name is Roma, and I love sour candies and truly great cinema — the kind that can be looked at in the context of any time, especially one as fast-moving and confusing as the present.

To bring these two things together, I decided to start hosting talks as part of the Sour Candy Cinema Club, and now my little film club has found its home at Woop Woop School.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the screening, and I promise it will be tasty at the very least ❤️

Masculine May
Welcome to the Masculine May!

After some fooling around in the April, Sour Candy Cinema Club is back with the vengeance to show you three movies that dive deep into the generational question of “Are men okay?”

09/05

Jarhead (2005)
Sam Mendes

As the saying goes, "Men used to go to war". Unfortunately, they still do, and not many movies showcase the military hazing and mind-breaking fatuity of machismo and modern conflict as Sam Mendes' Jarhead.

16/05

Point Break (1991)
Kathryn Bigelow

Well known, and unexpectedly poignant and profound tale of cops, robbers and surfers. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, Point Break serves as both nostalgic window in the era of 90s action movies and exploration of male friendship and spirituality.

31/05

The Iron Claw (2023)
Sean Durkiny

Carried by career-defining performance from Zach Efron, The Iron Claw offers a unique perspective on brotherhood, perseverance and generational trauma. Wrestling matches might not be real, but the pain they bring is.
