sour candy cinema club
cinema club with interesting lectures!
Hi everyone!

My name is Roma, and I love sour candies and truly great cinema — the kind that can be looked at in the context of any time, especially one as fast-moving and confusing as the present.

To bring these two things together, I decided to start hosting talks as part of the Sour Candy Cinema Club, and now my little film club has found its home at Woop Woop School.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all at the screening, and I promise it will be tasty at the very least ❤️

March schedule
female directors
Great news for all the cinema lovers (and perfomative males like me) in the audience: our March cycle of lectures is dedicated to female directors.

We are going to take a look at various aspects of life put to film through their works, discuss things that make their perspective unique and, as always, have a good time!

1/03

Women and Love Triangles: Past Lives (2023)
Celine Song

One of of the most recent entries to Sour Candy Cinema Club catalogue, Celine Song's masterpiece tackles one of the most stale concepts of storytelling, making it feel fresh and sincere. WARNING: our school already has tissues, but you better bring some extra!

8/03

Women and Friendship: Jennifer's Body (2009)
Karyn Kusama

Helmed by Karyn Kusama and Diablo Cody, this cult-classic is simultaneously a reflection on growing up, sexuality, deep connection between women and possibly the hottest horror movie ever. And Megan Fox eats people there, so you know it's fun!

15/02

Women and Violence: You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Lynne Ramsay

The only bad thing about Lynn Ramseys's poignant portrayal of masculinity, innocence and trauma is that it's darker themes becomes more and more relevant each day. Still, despite being uncomfortable this movie is a must watch for the grounded portrayal of the action hero and the best performance of Joaquin Phoenix' career.

22/02

Women and Capitalism: Nomadland (2020)
Chloé Zhao

Despite winning multitude of awards, Chloe Zhao's drama somehow was left out of cultural discussion and we'd like to ever so slightly change that. Join us to watch a great movie and reflect on why more and more of us feel adrift in these trying times
